Yankees icon Derek Jeter’s mistake costs Marlins millions
Under Jeter, the Marlins signed outfielder Avisaíl García to a four-year, $53 million deal in 2022. Three seasons later, in 153 games, García is batting .218 with a .582 OPS, leading to the team designating him for assignment. Miami will have to eat the remainder of his contract, $24.6 million, according to the Associated Press.
