A military aircraft crashed near Albuquerque’s main airport and a US Air Force base Tuesday afternoon, and the pilot – having ejected before the wreck – was sent to a hospital with serious injuries, officials in central New Mexico said.

A pilot was the only person aboard the unspecified plane that crashed near the airfield on the south side of the Albuquerque International Sunport. The pilot was conscious and has been transported, according to the facility. The pilot ejected from the plane, KOB reported.

The pilot, the only person on board, was able to escape after crashing and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to authorities.
