USE.The floss silk tree is cultivated mostly for ornamental purposes. Outside of private gardens around the world, it is often planted along urban streets. With their feathery foliage and delicate flower clusters, silk trees (Albizia julibrissin) add an exotic feel to gardens within U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 6 to 9. Mature silk trees bloom prolifically in summer, setting drifts of pale pink flowers that give way to long, flat seed pods in fall. The Ceiba speciosa needs full sun exposure and a warm climate; they resist light and sporadic frosts. The soil must be well drained and contain matter. Watering must be moderate; wait until the substrate has dried completely. They are very resistant to drought plants.
